Lightning from Hurricane Florence

CICS-MD Scientist Patrick Meyers prepared a video of Hurricane Florence lightning as recorded by the Geostationary Lightning Mapper (GLM) on GOES-16 on September 13 for the “NOAA Satellites” Facebook and Twitter Accounts. President Donald Trump included it in his tweet on the hurricane.

Stratocumulous-to-Cumulous Transition

CICS-MD Scientists Youtong Zheng and Zhanqing Li have a new article that uses passive satellite sensors to test a theory of stratocumulous-to-cumulous transition in the subtropics during cold advection.

Special Issue on "Satellite Soil Moisture and Its Applications"

CICS-MD Scientist Jifu Yin is organizing a Special Issue on "Satellite Soil Moisture and Its Applications" with the journal Advances in Meteorology. He will serve at the guest lead editor. The Call for Papers has been released--click on the "read more" button below to go to it. The submission deadline is February 23rd and the publication date is July 2018. Two other guest editors on the issue are also from CICS-MD: Hui Xu and Heshun Wang.
