Doug Kahn is a rising senior from the University of Maryland, College Park majoring in Atmospheric and Oceanic Science and minoring in Geographical Information Sciences. He has a strong interest and passion for the weather, especially severe and tropical weather. He has been interning at CICS-MD since 2014 and his main research focus has been on lightning. Currently, he has been taking a look at various networks such as the Lightning Mapping Array (LMA), the Earth Networks Total Lightning Network (ENTLN), and the National Lightning Detection Network (NLDN), and combining these with radar and model data to track storms over the Maryland, DC, and Virginia area. When not researching, he enjoys watching and playing sports such as soccer, football, baseball, basketball, and golf, as well as playing the drums and piano. He plans to continue on to graduate school after earning his B.S. at the University of Maryland.
