Chris Justice received his Ph.D. in Geography from the University of Reading, Reading, U.K., in 1977. In 2001, he became Professor and Research Director in the Department of Geographical Sciences at the University of Maryland, College Park and, since 2010, he has been serving as the Department Chair. He is a member of the NASA Moderate Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) Science Team and is responsible for the MODIS Fire Product. He is the Co-Chair for the NASA LANCE User Working Group, the GOFC/GOLD-Fire Implementation Team as well as the GEO Global Agricultural Monitoring Task. He is a member of the NASA JPSS/NPOESS Preparatory Project (NPP) Science Team. In addition, he is also a Principal Investigator for USAID’s Central Africa Regional Project for the Environment. He currently is the NASA Land Cover Land Use Change Program Scientist. He is researching land cover and land use change, the extent and impacts of global ﬁre, global agricultural monitoring, and their associated information technology and decision support systems.
